as i mentioned earlier, this movie was an extreme disappointment. Having watched the original movies and the anime series [note: the movie endings were different from the manga/anime, and actually only covered the 1st half of the anime/manga], i had really high expectations for this show. Had this been a typical crime-solving movie, it would have been ok. but this film was marketed as a dethnote film, with the trailer mentioning the deathnote, and the poster including the picture of the shinigami ryuk (ok, it was mentioned it was a deathnote spin-off).

But no no no, apart from scant references to the deathnote and some footage from the original deathnote films, this movie has nothing to do with deathnote at all. Hardly a battle of wits this time, much of the movie time was devoted to L and his team travelling around, and peppered with little jokes that shows L doing cute stuff. As my friend put it, this movie was more of a fan service for female fans who liked the suave L. So yeah, the rating is

3.5/5 stars, if it was a normal crime-solving film
0.5/5 stars, since it was marketed as a deathnote film
