After the high of the Dark Knight just a few days back, I caught Money No Enough II today. There was certainly no way the $ could beat the dark knight. This is after all a film deep seated in local roots, featuring a simple story which pertains to our country, jabbed with many laugh-put-loud moments. To its credit, the opening sequence was rather hilarious, opening with a dialect version of We are Singapore, complete with goofy lyrics. Quite a number of topics were brought up, ranging from the ERP, parking coupons to the inaugural F1 night race, though pressing issues like inflation and falling birth rates were not really mentioned. The usual pokes at government were in attendance, though I expected more. Cut up into 3 distinct story arcs, the show started off with some random mish-mash events and jokes, building up into an event which causes the title, money no enough, before rounding off with a family issue (which I thought was relatively mundane topic; ideal for family dramas, but rather unsuitable for a movie climax). In all… Still watchable, but do so with pinches of salt, and don’t expect too much out of it.
