blog hibernating!

me at 9:13 PM
England will meet Croatia again, this time in the World cup qualifiers. England better not mess up again this time. Meanwhile Singapore will meet Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan and Lebanon in the 3rd round Asian qualifiers. Go Singapore! Also, Australia drew, China, Iraq and Qatar in a tough group.

and guess I'll let the blog hibernate for the next few days, since exams start tomorrow.

newsy
Initially decided, and consequently skipped the Channel 5 news. but caught the Chinese edition later, so much interesting news!

Five members of the Singapore national dragon boat team are missing, and feared dead after their boat met with a mishap in a Cambodia river race.

Australia has a new Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd, replacing John Howard, who has ruled for the past four terms.

The NUS Facebook module was mentioned.

25% of Singapore's senior citizens use the internet.

Pete Sampras beat Roger Federer in the final match of a 3-match exhibition series, having lost the first two.

white, blue, black
Yesterday studied with a friend outside, we started studying when the day was still bright...

to the evening sky...

to night time.

decorations outside the building we studied in. (guess where?)

And as expected, Steve McClaren has been sacked. Maybe they can look to Jose Mourinho next? After all, he has managed Terry, Lampard, Joe Cole, Shaun Wright-Phillips, Ashley Cole at Chelsea. Wait a minute, that means Chelsea currently supply some many of Englans's national team players! On a sidenote, even British Prime Minister Gordon Brown said it was 'extremely disappointing' that all 4 British teams had failed to qualify for the Euro 2008.

out!
England, why. They messed up in their game against Croatia, losing 3-2 at home. So, there won't be Terry, Lampard and gang at next years' Euro championship.

Also, SAFFC won the S-league by a point from Home United, while Tampines Rovers finished a further point behind in 3rd place.

Domino Day 2007. It was the first time the record was not broken, in 9 years. But its still spectacular, nevertheless.

food guide
The Michelin guide released its Tokyo edition. All the restaurants received stars, for the first time in its 108-year history! Will we see a Singapore edition in the future?

heroes commentary... again
last week, my sis watched the pilot episode of heroes, where there were some bloody scenes, especially those involving Niki and Claire. she was like 'eww', 'gross', 'freaked out', 'disgusting'. I decided to forewarn her about the dissecting scene involving Claire this week, but she saw it anyway. she was like grossed out, and suggested that it should have been rated PG. ok... I kinda agree. that Claire scene is a bit overwhelming. but some brutal scenes still to come though. like scenes involving Sylar KO-ing his victims.

again, i was kinda distracted by the show, especially the part where Hiro saved the gal from the bus. yes, i've seen it all some time ago, but still cant resist taking peeks every now and then. that scene gives me a very strong, weird feeling. its kinda like... falling in love all over again? but heck, i've never even loved anyone before, so i don't even know if im describing my feeling correctly.

P.S. both winners of the Hey Gorgeous were the NTU contestants.

T3
so Israel shocked Russia 2-1, handing a lifeline to England. Now that destiny is in their own hands again, they better not mess up in their final group game against Croatia, where they only need a draw to qualify for Euro 2008.

And Singapore is through to the 3rd round of World Cup qualifiers! A 2-0 home win, coupled with a 1-1 away draw over Tajikistan secured a 3-1 aggregate win.

yea was supposed to be studying alot. but really couldn't resist the urge to check out terminal 3. of course, a chance to add pictures to my increasingly wordy blog.anyway agreed with my friend that we will not spend more than 2 hours at the airport, since he had to book in tonight anyway.

i guess this is the official logo(minus the black stripes).

here we go!

but... it cost $3 for a guided tour, $1 for a non-guided tour. of course, with all proceeds going to the Singapore Cancer Society, its great. and we went for the $1 tour, since I always get asked by people for directions (as written in one of my earlier posts), leading to the notion that I am 'supposedly' good at navigating around.

the all-powerful 'green wall'

playtime!

plane, plane, go away.

a very conveniently place named 'meeting point'. but there may be some issues.imagine

A: where to meet?
B: up to you
A: Macdonalds?
B: don't want lah probably crowded.
A: arrival hall
B: so big! how to find you
A: meet at the green wall
B: where/what is that
A: #%&*! alright then! just meet at the 'meeting point'!
B: so what is the meeting point? where am I gonna meet you?
A: ......

and passengers can watch movies while they wait for arrivals/departures! let's just hope it ain't re-runs of old movies like home alone, jaws... like a certain tv channel. alright, I think the channel doesn't do that nowadays.

also... the annual food exhibition was just at expo, one stop away, but I skipped it, though I usually go every year. its probably super crowded, and I wanted to go home to study anyway.

music, again
my sis was watching some drama, there was this task, some guys riding on horses. a female character in the audience, she took out some small rectangular thingy, and kinda bit/blow on it. then the on guy's horse started to fall/go hysterical.

a few moments later... and I realised what must have happened. she must have blown on the whistle, emitting a very low/high frequency sound, outside the human audible range, but still within the horse range, that caused the horse to be stunned. and the same ans was revealed later by the female char. so ya, another application from the music module i took.

speaking of which, i went very high over the music track i was supposed to compose. deadline was 12am, at 8pm, i thought it was done and left it. then at 11pm, i let my sis hear it(again), and she pointed out 3 areas i can improve on.i made some changes and things went wrong; because a slight modification to a beat can destroy the song, especially causing the accompanying tracks to be completely out of sync with the main instrument track. i panicked, and altered like mad, and only submitted the track at 11:58 pm, 2 minutes before the deadline. that got me really high. and now i kinda can't sleep because of the excitement.

thats it
so one week of break ahead. but regarding this sem.. gotta do some reflections. its really nice to have a blog, and be able to do this. it provides a space where i can complain bout stuff, post pics, talk bout sch, home, movies...so many different things. and of course, put up my little poems. for today, a reflection, a look-back on the sem. so...todays post gonna be quite long, just me ranting away.

quite a weird sem. studies-wise... in terms of tests, did quite ok for the dreaded maths module, but crashed spectacularly in the stats module i was kinda confident in. so things were in reverse. had 3 projects to submit by week 13, but havent even got started on anything by week 10.

had some strange, small run-ins with gals (note the letter 's' in the word gals)yeah, and i was at fault. also, kinda talked bad about people(kinda often in fact), and was proven wrong in many cases. slacked alot too. and did many small bad stuff.i am such a baddie. esp this sem. if i list down and describe all the bad stuff i did this sem, this post might fill a paper page. serious. i really hope to be a better guy next sem. and, the house wasnt exactly peaceful either.

also, finally found a fren (guy, not gal [haiz])who is my type. NO, i am NOT gay. what i mean is, he is the type of student like me: will complain bout studies in my manner, do projects my style, will take same module path as me in next few sems, blah blah. the first guy, who i see as a true statistics major, male fren. in fact, nearly half of my frens... are not even from the science faculty. so yeah.

full steam ahead for the exams! and those people reading my blog (and having exams), all the best for the exams!

directory
i find that i always get approached to be asked for directions. today alone 2 people asked me for directions. and not just today; i really, often get approached for directions. and its probably not because i look kinda 'knowledgeable'. for example, those flyers stuffed in front of me. i often see that the flyer distributors choose not to give flyers to people in front of me, but to me. adding the 2 points above, i think i look kinda... 'not fierce'? so people approach me. or as a friend once told me, i may look 'vulnerable'.

and tmr is the last day of this semester! though i wished for this sem to end quickly (due to problems of all kinds, from all directions, from start to finish), i feel kinda sad that the sem will be over tmr.

four months ago
finally, the episode that revealed all, 'four months ago' (heroes season 2 episode 8). alright, im not gonna give any spoilers on which characters survived/KO'ed after the season 1 finale, (there were at least 4 characters whose fates were left hanging in the balance) but its now known how they survived/KO'ed (well, except the main villain; no meniton of him in the episode). on another note, the next episode of Prison Break is a month away! duh. anyway, channel 5 is now showing heroes(finally), theres three different points of the show people might be at:

A) Those who watch the latest episodes online
B) Those who caught it on Starhub cable, which aired the season 1 finale months ago
C) Those who are catching the series now on Channel 5, which just got started

so i guess its kinda confusing when heroes discussion turns up.

And... Amazing Race is back tonight! and its just 2 episodes behind the American broadcast (unlike a certain series called HEROES, which Channel 5 gladly hyped up to the MAX)! woooo!

deja vu uv ajed
thats it, end of the night lectures. it was kinda fun and refreshing to have attended night lectures. i wouldnt having mind another one next semester.

at the lect, there were 2 points mentioned: if there are 23 people in a room, there is a 50% chance 2 people will share the same birthday. (in fact, if boosted to 50 people, the probability hits 97%). the 2nd point was, say toss a fair coin, show heads 20 times in a row, next toss will land on head/tail? (equal chance).

and BOTH questions were addressed in Brainac (Science documentary on Arts Central, 10pm, Wednesdays) today! such a coincidence!

nostalgia
on the way home, i saw some people dressed in polo with the words 'terminal 3' across the back. then heard on news that today, terminal 3 was opened to the public. no wonder.

having kept up to date with season 2 of heroes thus far(and throughly enjoyed it), i strongly recommended the show to my sis, and she's watching nw. nw i feel kinda loaded. cos im armed with a truckload of spoilers. haha.

and as of now, i keep taking peeks at the show. it realli gives me weird feelings. kinda nostalgic... back in time... calming effect...

ringtone
my sis let me hear a ringtone, nivknamed 'mosquito'. she put the phone close to my ear, and all i heard was a loud, piercing kinda screeching sound. it was supposedly a kind of ringtone that adults couldnt hear. why?

then it dawned on me. i learned bout it in the music module. as people age, the audile range of frequencies one can hear decreases. hence this unpleasant, high frequency sound can only be heard by young people.

and its the 1st time i've applied anything i've learned this sem.

sch, sch, sch
Saw someone reading a newspaper article with the heading that goes something like NUS slips from 19th to 33rd. wah. i guess its the academic ranking. the slip... well its probably caused by slackers like me. haha.

Its nearly the end of semester, today was the very 1st time i took the shuttle bus in NUS this sem! i was in Science faculty this whole sem and didnt venture aniwhere else. boring me.

And Tony Blair was in the house man! but didnt get to see him. wasted,
he came after the rankings were released, else maybe NUS might have jumped a few ranks for having successfully invited a big-name guest. no, really.

Finally... saw this text, in one of the pc labs in sch:

Ehh, shouldn't it be something like 'Pls give priority to those who need scanners'

mini-break
Yea! no sch today, plus public holiday tmr, makes for a 2 day rest. but of course im not gonna slack. i've already gotten the wake-up call.

a little question form the Brainiac show on Arts Central yesterday: if the temperature today is 0 degrees celcius, and the weather report states that tmr will be twice as cold, whats the temperature tmr

and the subaru challenge has its 1st female winner, clocking at 77+ hours. however, each gender category could take home a car each, so the male contestant who lasted the longest took home a car as well, but the ultimate winner was a female.

final wake-up call
i first got back 3 tests scores over the past few weeks. the 1st was above average, the next two were around average level. then everything fell apart, in the last 2 days.

yesterday got back 1 maths/stats paper. crushingly below average. then today... got back an essay, again kinda far behind average. wats more, according to figures given by the lecturer, i believe i got one of the lowest marks in the cohort, if not the lowest. devastating defeat. and to tink these 2 modules were my most confident ones at the start of this sem. then coupled with other small stuff that happened today, the dreaded loser mentality is creeping in.

my 1st exam starts in approx 3 weeks time. I have to wake up, NOW. one more strike against me, and i'm out.

weird, yet...
hmm today on the way back, some little things happen, but i can't explain why, here goes:

on the bus to the mrt i saw fren A. wanted to say hi, but bus too packed, so lost track of fren A. i reached the mrt platform, about to board a train, then had this niggling sensation that fren A would be coming along very soon, and end up on a train jus slightly later than me. aniwae i boarded the train.

then fren B, from NTU, calls, says to meet. so i alight 2 stops later, waiting for fren B's train to arrive. i told fren B on the phone bout my sensation. fren B says who noes, fren A might be on the same train. I boarded the train fren B was on, then the shock, yeah, fren A was in the same carriage as fren B! and they were inches away from each other. so... i dont noe wat to make of this. it was jus SO coincidental, so... something.

subaru challenge update: its approx 57 hours in, 11 men and 24 women are left standing.

its back
that insane subaru challenge is back, and now into its 2nd day. one slight difference, winners are split into female/male categories, so there are 2 prize cars. but its boring to have subarus every year. why not have some BMW/Mercedes challenge, where the winner gets to drive home a BMW/Mercedes instead. Or perhaps, a Ferrari challenge to really spice things up.

riding high
Went out in the evening, my fren drove, and we checked out the new KPE:

hmm... ok quite nice being in the new underground expressway. though its a bit narrow. and btw, my frens' driving style is...'power' driving.

We went to Sim Lim square, where my fren shopped for an item and got it within 15 mins. Upon exiting the carpark, the deduction from the cash card was a freaking $2.14! So ex, for like 15 mins worth of usage!

And no, its not doughnut factory again, but

Munchy Donut. after trying out.. doughnut factory, despite being too oozish and sweetish, still wins though.

then went to my frens house for a while, where there was this cute little, but constantly barking dog.

it 'targetted' me, probably cos i was a stranger in the house, and at one point started chasing me around in circles. the term 'snapping at my heels' came to mind.
