converting cash
Tagged along with my mom to cash converters. Man, nowadays they pay a measly 50 cents for an English movie, and down to 10 cents for a Chinese movie. The staff justified that the prices are especially low for those movies that have already been shown on tv... but hey. 10 cents is like the price of a blank disc!

twilight
4 weeks of the holidays gone... so its time for movie number 4. Twilight it is this time, though i've read the novel beforehand. I wasn't bored at all despite knowing exactly what will happen in the movie (the movie did an almost exact print to screen translation). Quite a good movie somehow, despite me not being interested in that lovey-dovey thingy. Being the big screen adaptation, the baseball and final confrontation scenes could be played out visually, and those sequences were kinda good. But still quite a teen-ish movie, with melodramatic music, plenty of slow motion shots and the silly camera whirling thingy. Time to get started on book number two of the series.

And there's this shop in Vivocity... which ain't exactly a shop, and feels more like an exhibit:

There was also this heat sensor thingy which got quite many people crowding around, but there wasn't really really any change in the sensor... well.

The name of the place... National Geographic.

say yes!!!!!
I was expecting an average run of the mill comedy in Yes Man, but boy it was such an absolute blast. Perhaps i could relate to the main character as well; he keeps giving excuses to push off appointments with friends, and holes up all day in his house watching movies, until he attends a seminar one day and decides to say yes to absolutely everything. Crude sexual humor, lotsa unique and nice jokes, movie spoofs, and of course Jim Carrey and his funny expressions, all make this a one of a kind film. An inspiring film indeed, definitely one of my favourite movies of the year!!!

results day, and...
It seems to be becoming clear that i can't hit the 4.0 mark no matter what. Yes, this sem matched my best result, but it is also the 3rd time that i have fallen short of the 4.0 mark by just one dot. In addition my proud little run of getting at least one A- or better each sem (yea, lotsa nus students get more than one A each sem, but im fairly satisfied with my results thus far)was snapped this sem. Boo.

A picture speaks a thousand words... or rather, i had nothing better to do

Good news though is that i get to keep all 3 s/u for next sem, which will be the final sem, where i'll be taking 3 non-core modules. Wait a minute, 3 non-core modules, along with 3 s/u? Time to relax and enjoy, before i finally venture into the working world.

Why do i have difficulty finding the clothes i like each time i go on a shopping trip. Went through the bugis shopping areas and did not even spot one shirt that i liked. Guess im too picky.

Spotted these in a shop...

There's actually action figures for heroes?! feels cheesy. So can these figures display abilities found in the show? fly? teleport?

Ok this pic ain't clear, but the BMW my friend was driving had this cool visual sensor thingy

which detects obstacles both in front and back of the car, and displays it on a monitor to facilitate parking, not like those annoying cars that go beep beep beep when reverse parking, but still can't give owners enough info about the obstacles.

And a couple of Christmas tree pics... though a friend commented, why i take pics often, but usually don't get myself into the pics...

booted
Oh shucks. Singapore got booted by Vietnam, despite laying siege to the Vietnam defence from start to finish. Well to be fair Vietnam dealt an onslaught to Singapore in the 1st leg, and Vietnam should have won this semi final by then. But here, 0-0 draw in the 1st leg gives plenty of room to fight for. So Singapore played much better today, with a ravenous crowd backing us up. But the killer touch was just not there, and a lapse in defence produced the solitary goal, sending Vietnam to the final. All that talk about Singapore winning the cup each time they qualified for the semi final now counts for nothing. Well next time then.

1st leg
Some comments on the semi-final match yesterday... It was like watching Singapore vs Cambodia all over again. Except... Singapore were the much weaker side this time: Vietnam completely dominated, completely outrun, completely controlled the pitch with crisp and pinpoint passing. The only thing going for Singapore was... luck. Yes, the Vietnamese created a flurry of chances, and could have easily racked up a handsome 4 or 5 goal win. Vietnam even had 3 one-on-one situations at nearly the exact same spot, but each attempt were thwarted by every possible reason: shooting just wide, off the post, and off a defender. Singapore better do better in the return leg back home!!!

happy caping
Caught cape no. 7. Nominated for so many awards at the golden horse awards, and recommended by friends, i went in expecting it to be an absolute masterpiece... but it wasn't, for me. I mean it was a fairly decent movie with lotsa jokes and a decent plot, but i suppose i didn't catch the underlying message... Have to say the female lead was really super chio though. Overall, the film felt like a local movie, reminding me of the Jack Neo films...

Back home, on to the semi-final 1st leg Singapore vs Vietnam. Following up, okto shows as usual.

And best of all... after nearly four full days of rest at home, today was the first time i ventured outdoors... and my back held up, despite standing on the mrt to and from home, coupled with quite some walking as well. wooz!

standing still
the Day the Earth Stood Still... wasn't a good movie at all. Most of the special effects in the movie were already spilled in the trailers, so there wasn't much visual flair left. Add in Keanu Reeves who simply had to give a stoned expression throughout the film, and a totally predictable plot and ending... well. At least there was a standout moment, where Keanu Reeves spouted out a fairly chunky amount of speech... in Chinese. Yeah. Heavily accented, off sounding Chinese which hot quite some of the audience giggling.

back
Worst fear confirmed: my lower back strain is back. Was doing great over the past year; guess my standings during mrt trips to and fro sch helped increase my endurance. Didn't experience any significant strain over past year or so, even after long long outings.

Signs were there, when on my return trip home after my last exam for the semester (1 week ago), my back started to feel strained from the standing on the mrt, which i hadn't experienced in a long long time. The next day, upon my return from the orchard light-up trip, the strain happened again. Next day, worse, felt strained throughout the whole day. And its been on-off over the past few days too. I'm having the initial suspicion that long inactivity over the past 2.5 exam weeks, but can't be too sure bout that. This goes on and its off to the docs.

semi
Oh and in the second group match, Myanmar provided much stiffer resistance than Cambodia, but Singapore still came through with a 3-1 victory, with the final goal almost threatening to turn into a fracas. Well qualification for the semi-finals is secure, and on to the last match against Indonesia to fight for top spot!

5 up
AFF Suzuki Cup kicks off! First match, Singapore versus Cambodia.

First thing i noticed in the starting line-up, there were like... 6 non-Singapore born players, from forwards Agu & Duric, to midfielders Wilkinson & JiaYi, rounding up with defenders Precious & Bennett. And well the crowd were cheering all the way for Cambodia, and Singapore even got some boos, hmm... maybe it's the underdog spirit.

From the get go it was Singapore all the way, with maximum possession and plenty of goal scoring opportunities. But it was certainly frustrating with constant denial by goalkeeper, defenders, the post. Deadlock was finally broken in the last minute of the first half in a goalmouth scramble. The scoring boots were finally put to use in the second half, as 4 additional goals were pumped in for a resounding victory. Cambodia is a young and considered the weak team in this group, so Singapore's mettle will only be really put to the test in the next 2 matches. On wards we go!!!

lyrics
Just wondering, what if contestants do not know how to sing either of the 2 songs that are offered for each category on Don't forget the Lyrics? Anyway today's episode featured this fun loving, pregnant lady, dancing around on stage and thoroughly enjoying herself. I look at myself, sitting around with an increasing waistline. Time to get active.

drama-ing
Finally caught up with the animes, heroes and prison break which i have put behind due to the exams. And oh my Prison Break is absolutely stunning, a very different approach to seasons 1,2 and the disastrous season 3, yet more exciting than ever. Heroes meanwhile... nice plot still, but too many characters is killing the show. For now prison break is owning.

lighting-up
Alright, exams over, so it's time to mess around! 1st up was the orchard road Christmas light-up, which... wasn't very impressive to be honest. I'm not sure whether me and my friends trekked the wrong sections, but the decorations were here and there, not really spread all over the area. Some of the decorations weren't exactly nice... Or maybe my artistic taste is blehhh. Anyway here goes the pics...

over over over over
Done with all the 4 exams!!! The last paper was exactly as i expected, a major disaster. It was like a final boss in a RPG game, where whatever weaponry (my helpsheet)and spells (my determination to sign off the exams on a victorious mode) could do no significant damage to the boss. The boss just had to do some minor tricks, and there i was stunned and enable to make any moves. On the flip side though, I had several prior disastrous experiences with maths papers where i felt like it was a total goner, but still did reasonably ok, so im hoping this will end up ok too. Strangely i didn't feel as happy and joyful as the day when i completed the 3rd paper though. But well, now that its over, time to enjoy!!!
