A is for apple
Today was results day, and since i was at work, i thought it would be fun to let my sis check my results, which would be the first time i didn't check out results on the pc personally. But she was at night class, so I thought boo... until a friend told me that results could be checked via SMS, which I instantly did. So it turned out to be a first-time too, checking via SMS.

Speaking of the results... the results of the previous semester matched my best record, which I achieved way back in semester 1. Really nice results (of course not school-topping, but just very satisfactory results for my own standards). A big stunner came in this module called Linear Algebra part II, which I was expecting to mess up completely owing to my C+ in Linear Algebra part I. Turns out that I got a B for this sucky-oh-my-i-hate-this-so-much module. Then, Bahasa Indonesia, where i messed up badly in the oral test (and subsequently complained like nobody's business in a previous blog post) brought me a just-nice B+. And I got my 1st ever A in NUS! Alright, its no big deal, many people would have scored an A by now... but I have been getting a few A minuses the past few semesters, and this is my 1st and true A, which came in the 1st fully-Science module i attempted, biology. Cheers to Science!

losing track
Oops, working at the shopping mall has really made me lose track of time. I only realized today that i have to submit my timesheet tomorrow, and that exam results are also tomorrow. gosh. Then i realized that i have been missing the daily tv news (which I have been faithfully following for the past few years)for the past week. And I haven't even attempted to write a poem of any sort for the past few months. And I have yet to do my shopping for this GSS. Duh.

Great Singapore Sale, here i come
no, im not saying im gonna shop like mad during this month; my temporary job at compasspoint kicked off yesterday, in conjunction with the GSS. The guy-gal ratio is 2:5 (wooz!), and out of these 7 people, full time staff stands at 4, with 3 temporary helpers. Surprisingly... at 22 years of age currently, im not the 2nd youngest person in the 7-member team, but the 2nd oldest. Repeat: 2nd oldest out of 7 staff!!! So its like one bunch of young lads working together, with one 'big boss', whom we refer to as kakak (elder sister in malay). After her, in terms of age, im the 'second-in-command'. hoho.

Chelsea, SO CLOSE
Chelsea in the Champions League final. There was no way i was gonna miss this. Me and a friend went to Mac at Tampines central to try our luck (to no avail), and subsequently went to a coffeeshop 20-minutes away to catch the match.

Man Utd kinda controlled the entire game in the 1st half, but missed many chances to extend their lead following the opening goal. With that, Chelsea got back into the game with an equalizer, and were totally rejuvenated for the 2nd half, threatening Man Utd with many goal opportunities, including TWO goal post hits (the other coming in extra time).

Being a true blue Chelsea fan, it was sooo nerve-wrecking when it came to the penalties. Adrenaline rush kicked in, and my heart was pounding as the players took their penalties. Most of the spot kicks went smoothly, and when Ronaldo fluffed his spot kick by attempting to fake the goalkeeper, i was already picturing the newspaper sports headlines tomorrow, reading something like 'Ronaldo loses Champions League Final for Man Utd with goofy penalty'. But it was not to be. John Terry missed the final spot kick as well, leading to sudden death penalties, where Anelka had his penalty saved to hand the title to Man Utd. Most people in the coffeeshop erupted with joy (yeah, Man Utd fans surely outnumber their Chelsea counterparts by a ton) Awww, what a dramatic finish, but Chelsea were really really so so CLOSE!!!

biting the job agency
Having went back to my previous workplace before the holidays, I secured the same job i did during the last 3-month vacation, through assistance from my former colleagues. Then came the call from a job agency (which helped me find the job in the first place, during the previous vacation), saying that i was still 'under' them, and had to sign a contract with them yet again this year, which i absolutely detest for some reasons (*cough $$$*). It turns out that if i had gotten a temporary job through the agency and wish to return to the same job within a year, i will still be 'under' the agency, which is like... boo. Alright, im not saying im gonna bite the hands that fed me, but i didn't hear of this condition when i first signed up for the job, and it was not stated in black-and-white either. Boo.

back-to-back tragedies
Cyclone Nargis rampaged through Myanmar last week, causing an estimated 80,000 deaths, and as bad as it sounds, another powerful natural disaster, this time a 6.1 magnitude quake, hit Sichuan province in China, taking with it another 10,000 lives. Especially heart-wrenching are the scenes showing survivors still trapped beneath rubble and awaiting rescues, and seeing devastated kids who have lost their parents. Of course, with a major natural disaster comes the risk of a 'secondary' disaster, potentially increasing the death toll through the spread of diseases and lack of basic necessities such as food, water and shelter for the survivors. Aid has been pouring in from everywhere, showcasing the heartwarming human spirit. These 2 disasters certainly show the fragility of life, and also the uplifting side of humans, presenting diverse facades of life. We really should learn from these disasters, forget about petty squabbles, live life in better ways, and cherish our lives well.

Nihon no tabemono
Another primary sch gathering... This time we even managed to call up our teacher from way back then as well! And he really did manage to name each one of us... well except for me. Guess my name isn't too prominent haha. But he did recall that i was one of the 'good boys' of the class (wonder if i am still a 'good boy' now). We had a nice sumptuous meal at waraku restaurant, and our former teacher readily paid for us all. Of course we tried to pay him back, but he flatly refused. After that we went to another japanese food outlet, this time dessert outlet azabu sabo... And heres a group photo

Looking forward to the next outing!

the man of iron
Wow! Ironman is an absolutely blast! This is certainly a superhero movie like no other. Action barely took up less than an hour of the total 125 minute movie, but man the plot and story flow so interesting and refreshing, it beats the action sequences. The title character slowly experiments with, and builds up his gear, coupled with many training sessions which formed the bulk of the laugh-out-loud moments. Nice witty dialogue delivered as well, but just a pity that the final 'boss' battle was a little anti-climatic, and wasn't of epic proportions. But well, ironman certainly ranks up there as one of the best superhero movies. Bring on ironman II! (And the avengers... stay tuned after the ending credits to find out).

Also after the show a friend passed me an ironman figurine...

Certainly doesn't look like the cool ironman in the movie though.

one more calculation
Yes, tmr is the final exam paper for me this semester... and luckily i found out in time that my sis has a calculator which is far more advanced than my decades-old calculator, which will definitely prove to be useful in my statistics paper, helped by the automated data calculations with the new calculator. Funny thing was she told me not to smash or throw around the calculator as celebration after my final exam paper haha.
