GV INCREASED its movie ticket prices by 50 cents, following in the footsteps of Cathay. Bleh. luckily, my hunger for movies has simmered due to sch work (there was this stretch where i watched cloverfield - the mist - kung fu dunk - CJ7 - jumper- L change the world- no country for old men - 10,000 BC in an approximately 2 month stretch: thats an average of roughly 1 movie per week!!!).

i have my wednesdays free, but this is the 1st wednesday i can truly take a break, with the past few wednesdays peppered by the bahasa indonesia project, and tests all over the place.
Singapore defeated Lebanon 2-0 in a world cup qualifier. Well done!

Yes! The Blues came from behind to beat Arsenal 2-1, making it a monday blue. Meanwhile Manchester United steamrolled 10-men Liverpool 3-0.

Today is the highly anticipated 'super sunday', where the top 4 teams in the EPL take on each other: Manchester Utd vs Liverpool, Chelsea vs Arsenal, in one day! Go Chelsea! and the results are...

For some reason, the house was kinda noisy today, and seeing that i have a test and lotsa things and project to clear for the coming week, I went all the way to school, despite today being a public holiday. Except for the time wasted on travelling, things turned out ok. Well, mostly. I mean, public holiday=no canteens open, leading to my reliance on Macs, Subway and cup noodles for my meals. But it really is a nice experience, to work in school with no disturbance, just working peacefully...
To add to the plus points, there is tv on the school network, with mainstream channels such as
Channel 5
and Channel U

even Discovery Channel is available

comes the hang-over; after the concert yesterday, the hang-over arrives today: sleepy, tired, disinterested in anything, feeling kinda down...

today was the day for the Bahasa Indonesia projects presentation, where each group such as dance, singing and traditional costume had to strut their stuff. Being on the logistics team meant that I had 1st hand experience at behind the scenes preparation, and i think its a nice experience, especially being able to work with a complete group of strangers, rushing each other for deadlines, goofing around during preparations.
A surprise came when, after the show, after i was almost done with the cleaning-up (i was helping move the kulintangs), there was a guy and a gal who had seemingly waited for me. They came up to me, and were asking me whether i was from a particular primary school. I recognized the guy, but the gal, it took me a short while to guess who she was. Turns out they were from my primary six class. SO coincidental that they are taking this module as well!
And so, it was a 'high' day for me, but then...

watched this show a week ago, but didn't haver the time to put up a review, so here goes:
10,000 BC might as well being named 10,000 prophecies. The village of the main hero has a prophecy that some 'four-legged demons' will attack the village one day. Checked. Another tribe has the prophecy that a man who can 'talk' to animals will lead their people in a war. Checked. The enemy stronghold has a prophecy that someone with a certain 'mark' on his/her body will defeat them. Checked. Well yea, the movie is kinda based on these prophecies. The prehistoric animals hardly make an appearance, and the ending was too nicey-nice (The type where the hero saves everyone and everyone returns home, living happily ever after). But otherwise, the movie was still ok in terms of moving the story forward, with some light-hearted moments. I'll say this movie is a decent popcorn show, but definitely not the epic show it had the potential to be.

according to the biology lecturer today, since the flower is a reproductive structure of flowering plants, form the biological point of view, giving flowers to your partner means you are looking forward to erm... erm... you know. or rather, putting things in a lighter tone, it means living together and starting a family with him/her. yea.

finally, been waiting for this day: project done, essay submitted, 2 tests over. i felt like i was going through an exam stretch these past 2 weeks, and my appetite for slacking, movies and watching anime has degenerated greatly. oh well, time to get back to normal life (at least before the next test, which is in 2 weeks' time).
To add to the joy, Chelsea hammered derby 6-1, with star player Lampard grabbing 4 goals.
come to think of it, the start of my torrid week (last week) was coupled with Chelsea's defeat to Barnsley; the start of this free week was coupled with Chelsea's big win. Seems like my school life has a connection with Chelsea, hoho.

yes, i've learnt to make ketupats for a project , Bahasa Indonesia module. it ain't perfect, but man i wasn't expecting to be able to do such things!

thats the name of one of my modules, but im not going into academic stuff.
there was this survey, i think a Chinese newspaper, claiming that 64% of NUS students have sex at least once a week. im not being narrow minded by saying that this high figure can't be true, but... from my previous module knowledge, surely there are many loopholes in this survey. how many people did they actually survey? did they survey only people living in the hostels, leading to a higher figure? which faculties are the students from, and which year are they in now? the list goes on...

2 mid-term tests this week, well still ok, considering i had 4 final exams in 3 days in a previous semester. furthermore, my wednesday is free. enter the problems. i have a project, that has to be done in school, on wednesday. including transport time, wednesday is pretty much gone. then pops up this last min 750-word essay, we are given 5 days to complete it, to be handed in on thursday. this deadline sandwiched in between my 2 tests, which are on tuesday and thursday. oh man.
to further complications, Chelsea succumbed to giant killers Barnsley 0-1 in the FA Cup quarter finals. ouch.

Yeap, i signed up for a experiment/test (with a reimbursement of $5), where all i had to do was to look a stranger's photo, then answer questions (do you think she is appealing, do you think she is a high-flyer etc), following which i would meet up with the girl for about 20 mins in an impromptu meet and greet session. But after i finished the survey, the administrator told me that the girl could not turn up, and i collected $5 just for completing that questionnaire. Hmm, that made me kinda feel bad, since i didn't do anything significant... maybe i should donate the $5 to charity (not joking)?
btw, Chelsea slapped Olympiakos 3-0 to reach the Champions League Quarter Finals. Wooz!

John McCain has won the Republican's nomination for the presidential election, while Hilary Clinton snapped Barack Obama's 12-state winning streak to stay in the hunt for the Democratic nomination. Whoever from the Democratic wins though, will light up the presidential contest since each will be striving to be the 1st female/African American president respectively.

silly me didn't know that my faithful calculator, which has been with me since secondary school days, can do some statistical calculations like mean and standard deviation (which are very useful to me since i'm taking so many statistics modules). it came to light, when this morning, a friend mentioned to me that as long as calculators have the 'stat' mode, it probably can work out statistical stuff. in the afternoon, a different told me the same thing, and proceeded to give me a demo. then when i came home, i checked with my sis (she just started learning the basics of statistics), and even she knows about the stat functions. duh.

Oh, and thats it of the one week vacation break; it was a really fulfilling one for me this time, watching anime, catching up with friends, and revising an adequate amount. A full, busy 7 weeks, plus the exams awaits...

Since No Country for Old Men won the Best Picture award at the recent Oscars (plus I've become a movie freak lately) I absolutely had to catch the show. The story revolves about the main character finding big money in the aftermath of a drug deal gone wrong, and a psychopath hunting him down, killing most of the people (with a crazy weapon, done in oh-my-that-was-vicious ways) he meets along the way. A big time thriller, with many suspenseful cat-and-mouse scenes, coupled with magnificent backdrop shots. It was a really worthy show until the last 30 min or so... where the focus of the show and the ending (the cat-and-mouse chase was not the focus of the show, it turns out, after I consulted online reviews upon reaching home) left me baffled. But its really a one of its kind show.
Speaking of old men, i saw this uncle at a bus stop who started saying something to a young lady standing near him. when the lady said 'huh', the uncle replied 'sweet girl'. I was like, oh boy, they don't know each other and he's picking up on her. He tried to strike a conversation, and the girl, seemingly lost for direction, asked for bus routes. She started to shift her attention away after a short while, and after the uncle invited her to sit beside him, the girl started to get wary and moved to the opposite side of the bus stop. As she walked away, i saw the uncle completely leering at her, kinda scanning her from up to down. Then when a particular bus came, he actually got on the same bus as after her... man i hope nothing bad happens there .
