my second love
heres the short story of how I came to support Chelsea FC, which is thus far the second love in my life (my first love is... well I'll get to that next time; its an item though):

saw an article, where Zola (yes, that long ago) scored the winner for Chelsea in a 1-0 win over VFB Stuttgart in the now-defunct Cup Winners' Cup. i kinda liked the name Chelsea, and since then, i've been an ardent supporter of Chelsea FC. End of story.

tuesdays with morrie
is such a facsinating read. thogub its an under two hour book, the life lessons potrayed in it are so simple, yet engaging. add that to a an impending and sad death, and there we have it, one of the best books i've ever read.

i am (not) legend
i was sorely dissapointed by i am legend. it wasn't really a bad show, i mean, but the movie was effectively killed by the trailer. the trailer showed so much promise, and was good at building up hype. and thats where the problem was: 80% of the action scenes were already summarized in the trailer. so as i sat through the movie its like ok, so many of the scenes were already damn famaliar. but the feelings of loneliness were potrayed pretty well.

Aniway was playing some rhythm game at the arcade

1st up was easy mode, and i blazed through it

come normal mode, and all chaos ensued. and my school grades are kinda in the middle of the two.

thump. thump... ok.
this morning, i was just drifting in and out of sleep, having weird short dreams. must have been the looming results. woke up at 10am, had to endure a heart-thumping 30 mins for results. as expected, this was my worst semester result yet, and it could have been much worse if not for one of my module... Science of Music. That was the unexpected joker of the pack. and looking at the trend, my overall cumulative score has been slipping by the SAME amount, 0.1 per semester. wohoo!

tomorrow
oh! finally found a copy of Tuesdays with Morrie, thanks to a friend who brought me to the Geylang East community library to hunt it down.

Chelsea drew 4-4 with Aston Villa in a pulsating match featuring 3 red cards, 2 goals by A. Shevchenko, 2 penalties, and 2 goals in the last 2 minutes.

and tmr's the results! i'm pretty sure I messed up the previous semester, its just a matter of how badly.

commercial Christmas
all right, its Christmas tomorrow, and... nowadays it seems so commercialized ain't it. 2 weeks before, we're treated to so many Christmas-themed commercials on TV, Christmas carol song compilation albums, and of course, big bad sales in shopping malls to satisfy gift needs. Do people know what the Christmas tree actually represents? (I, for one, just found out today, and it was on the Channel 5 news where I found out!)

Simpsons
The Simpsons Game is really a crazy ride. Though it features standard platformer gameplay along with a very cranky camera, it ups the entertainment factor by poking fun at just about everything out there. PS2 games such as Katamari Damacy, Grand Theft Auto (especially)are parodied in the game. The famous green diamond cursor from the Sims is also thrown in. References to Pokemon , Batman and Fantastic Four (Bart says 'Flame on' when its hes called on')are also incorporated. The Mario green pipes, and the classic sound as Mario jumps into the pipe are in. Skybucks *cough* (a certain coffee chain) also appears... in the heavens. Medal of Homer, Neverquest, Grand Theft Scratchy are inserted as levels. Heck, even the PS4 and X-box 720 are cheekily proposed in the game.

page 47
at the movies again. its the third time i've seen the I Am Legend trailer, and im so pumped up to watch it.

National Treasure 2... was not bad. similar in tone to the first show, where the main character finds clue A , then B, C, D... before landing the big treasure Z. I initially thought page 47 was left as an after movie extra joke scene, but there wasn't any scenes after the credits. So im now betting the next installment will be named National Treasure 3: page 47.

the big draw
The Champions league match-ups:

Liverpool vs Inter Milan
Olympiakos vs Chelsea
Roma vs Real Madrid
Schalke 04 vs FC Porto

Arsenal vs AC Milan
Celtic vs Barcelona
Fenerbahce vs FC Sevilla
Lyon vs Man Utd

All the English clubs have big bad opponents, save for Chelsea. Heck, all the British clubs except Chelsea have trouble, with Celtic taking on Ronaldinho, Messi, Henry and company. but Chelsea had better not take their opponents too lightly.

warring
I don't really watch Chinese movies, but slashing through the Warriors Orochi game piqued my interest in the war show, Warlords. And the plot was really quite good, with many tense moments fitted in. But the fighting scenes... well some were really over the top, ala Dynasty Warriors, with the 3 main generals seemingly capable of surviving onslaughts coming form hundreds of soldiers (and actually beating alot of them).

shop shop
following a restful day of recharge yesterday, i went around shopping, since its the Christmas sale just about everywhere. I wanted to get a cap(always wanted one), sunglasses(seems cool to have one), new spectacles(the current one i'm wearing is old and battered), new shoes(i'm still wearing those (in)famous army sports shoes), new wallet(the current wallet is torn). and in the end i only got the wallet. duh.

Singapoe wins... Asian Idol!
Yes, Hady Mirza is THE 1st Asian idol. Though i didn't watch the performance shows and just watched the ending of the results show (thus not knowing how everyone performed), I was quite surprised that Singapore won. Going by the judges' comments prior to the results, it seemed Indonesia was a small favourite.

And when the winner were announced, I heard shouts of joy from the opposite block, louder than when Man U scored against Liverpool (Yes, 1-0 to Man U), in fact sounding like a world cup goal was scored. Speaking of which, AC Milan beat Boca Juniors 4-2 to win the club world cup.

SEA games, over!
Congrats to Team Singapore on winning 43 Gold medals, their best 'away' performance! And Singapore is the only nation with more Golds than Bronzes, a unique feat. Also, a modest 127 medals were earned. Quality over quantity!

Looking at the leaderboard, Thailand won 183 Golds, while the 2nd to 4th placed countries earned a total of 188 Golds. Thats a real strong finish by the hosts.

101
An extremesportsman, Felix Baumgartner parajumped off Taipei 101 building today. Yea, cool, but the main problem is, it was done illegally. He was previously denied permission to do the stunt, but managed to sneak past security today (where one of the security cameras was sent for repairs, resulting in a potential 'blind spot'). Upon landing, there was even a taxi waiting for him, and he jetted off to Hong Kong soon afterwards to evade the authorities. wow.

and Singapore again picked up just one gold medal today.

X tv X
Yesterday night was the finale of Brainac series. Man, with the holidays just getting started, the shows im hooked on are dropping like flies:

Heroes 2: early season finale at episode 11 (instead of 20+) due to writers' strike
Prison break 3: well... taking a break till Jan. also because of writers' strike
Brainiac: as mentioned above
Is it real: documentary on central, exploring phenomena like sleeping walking murders, stigmata, the Nostradamus effect etc. season finale tmr.

And Singapore garnered only one gold medal today.

rain woes
today's rain was again the on-off-on-off type.

met a female friend who's currently learning driving. i have a strong desire to do so too (since like years ago), but i'm being held back by the high costs.

went to my former workplace to leave my contacts for the next shopping centre promotion. I missed the current one due to the exams, and its getting increasingly boring at home.

and Arsenal have finally seen their unbeaten run broken (Yay)!

bronze compass
Was at the theaters today, the trailer for I Am Legend really hyped me up. The last man alive on Earth, up against some kinda creatures that only show up at night, seemingly former humans infected by some kind of virus. Then came the movie I was supposed to watch: Golden Compass.

IMO, a boring show, loose plot, characters seem to be going from one place to another randomly. The big climatic fight wasn't spectacular, and the attachment between each human and his/her own daemon wasn't portrayed well. To top it off, the film ends very abruptly as the main characters embark on their next task, which will probably be left to part 2 of the (supposed) trilogy. I guess the film didn't do justice to the book from which it was adapted.

And Singapore has made it to the SEA games soccer semi-finals!

shadowy end
arghh! its the end of exams and im supposed to be rejoicing. but... i
really messed up the last paper really badly:

the first few papers, yes i don't think i did well in some, but i ain't complaining.
no point fretting over something that's gone, isn't it. but today's paper... really got me crazy.

it was supposedly quite manageable. there was this question 15 marks outta 100.
part a, I think about 10 marks, i just couldn't figure it during the exam.
10 minutes after the exam (when I was already not thinking about exams), the idea to do it just hit me suddenly. quite easy question in fact. what was wrong with me?

part b, 5 marks. it was a (even easier) question that appeared in the lecture notes, and the exam was open book.
meaning, the answer was right there in front of me!
I don't know why or how i didn't even bother to flip open the pages instead of
just giving up.

it seems like a 'perfect' ending to this horrible semester, where most things have gone wrong. now i fully understand the term 'final nail in the coffin'.
